Dr. Sohum Desai is the only board-certified neurosurgeon with endovascular training in the entire Rio Grande Valley. His clinical focus involves the treatment of cranial and spinal conditions. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and serves as the clerkship director for the medical student’s neurosurgery elective. Dr. Sohum Desai grew up in Edinburg, Texas and obtained his bachelors of science in Biology at Texas A&M University in Kingsville, Texas. He earned his medical degree with honors at Texas A&M University Health Science Center in College Station, Texas. Dr. Desai then completed his neurosurgical residency at University of Texas Medical Branch (https://www.utmb.edu/surgery/divisions-sections/neurosurgery-folder/alumni). He is a diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons. He has also co-authored the “Neurosurgery” chapter (Book Link)
in the Sabiston’s Textbook of Surgery 20th Edition- considered a Bible of general surgery residency. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and North American Spine Society. He currently has active medical staff appointments at all major hospitals in the Rio Grande Valley.
